Why Egy Organics?
The website "Egy Organics" is a graduation project for my Multimedia Journalism Capstone course with Professor Kim Fox. I was initially working with two other people on "Depression in Egypt", as professor Kim has divided all class into groups of three. However, I got too depressed with the topic and the group so I decided to work alone.
Organic has always been such a foreign concept to most Egyptians, including me. So when Professor Kim came up with the idea of the organic industry in Egypt for me to cover, I was extremely intrigued. Because I was the one that preferred to work alone, I was determined to prove to myself and everyone that I made the correct decision.
As soon as I found out about my new topic, I immediately searched the web and contacted every organic business I discovered. Being rare, the organic production in Egypt is explicitly expensive. Most, if not all, founders of organic enterprises are elites. At first, I believed no one will ever reply back to me and I refused to bring my hopes up. However, I got more interviewees than I ever wanted. They all agreed for the same purpose, raising awareness to healthy food in Egypt.
